Rust to Dust

by Peter J. Crowley on June 14, 2007

Rust to Dust
Rust to dust Jeff told me
an old auto sits at the base of a knoll
sprinkled with light through the trees
trees that were not there
when last she was parked
Rust to dust, clear sky
light over the hill but
she’ll sit there still
in this Warholian world
her fifteen minutes are past
rust to dust

My friend Jeff T. Bishop sent me this image that inspired the poem. Enjoy life fifteen minutes isn’t much time when seven and one half minutes are commercials. Comments welcome. enjoy pjc

FAQ and prices for Digital and the grab shot.

by Peter J. Crowley on June 8, 2007

Art Prints

How do I know which images on site are digital? In the image url are file numbers for example, Black and White film image will be 40-09-22, color negative C-31-09-23 or Transparencies [slides] that will be printed as Giclee [archival pigment ink prints] T-45-09-9 and digital originals also printed as Giclee with be coded as D-2-09-34 These numbers are in the file name in the url list in your address bar or on the buy now page.

Session prints

Why film and not digital? I now shoot both, digital prices below. I have just started with digital and feel it is a totally different medium. As an artist I like to make the choices when I make a negative and have found, that the digital camera discourages choice. It is extremely hard to use the camera in “M” manual you need three hands to change shutter speed and aperture.

Why have I started shooting digital? Speed is what is desired so speed I can provide. Marketing and choking of small business makes getting supplies harder to find.

What if I shoot you at an event, the grab shot? The grab shot is when I am not being paid to shoot the event by you. If you want a print you can order at the same rate as the prices below. To see a small jpg, email me with event info and if you can speak to me at the event so I will know who you are. If I am shooting film it will take a while, pending on my work flow and time if digital less time. Paying work has to come first. Donations are always welcome.

Giclee Prints. These are pigment ink prints and the quality of today’s papers has improved to make Giclee prints made from negatives or transparencies a great cross breeding of the two mediums. There is still much more information in your negative or transparency than any digital camera around.

Black and white prints are developed using a Silver Gelatin process. They are hand crafted un-cropped on the best fine art fiber paper. Images produced using this technique are works of art that will last up to a century or more. Resin coated [RC] prints were developed for the convenience of the publishing industry and for artists to quickly see enlargements of their 35mm negative. RC prints produce a fine range of tones, but not the rich tonal separation of a fine art silver gelatin print. Each image is hand printed and signed by the artist.*
