As close to Hollywood as I will get or want to be, not Hollywood Boulevard but Rt 5 just south of Brattleboro Vt in Massachusetts. Friendly people on a sunny afternoon very welcoming and a lovely barmaid. Made me wish I wasn't 2 hours drive from home. Travels past and present will be this week, months theme. I never got out of the 80's while chronicling my photo history. So on to the Nineties. With an occasional peek at the present and past. The writing is on the wall as "We the People" celebrated independence day. This year besides the faces I shot signs. Walker Evans during the last depression made images using signs to present a portrait of our nation. Now eighty or so years later where everything is a sign, your sweat pants, tee shirts, I chose not to photograph the gentleman in the tee shirt that read "I'd rather be water boarding" as he yelled at the anti war marchers "They'd cut your head off for that in Iran." We all still have in theory free speech. But are "We the People" speaking independently or just regurgitating what the media and political talking heads force feed us? enjoy pjcLabels: Civil Liberties, Free Speech, Independence
