Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited rolling to Chicago

Cleveland Indians Progressive Field under construction.

The Duchess Lynn
Morning of the 18th rolling through Indiana where gas was 89.9 a gallon! What a deference a decade makes. On to Hocking Valley Ohio or near by where the Duchess Lynn sat. We stopped here for a while so I got a good look at the Duchess. Back on board through the window of Amtrak I view the world write notes on America from both sides of the tracks. What is the other side of the tracks? The trip provided two looks at rail travel one where there were many Historic Rail Cars museums/monuments while in many places Historic Old Stations stood in disrepair replaced by glassed bus stop waiting places or construction style trailers. Interesting contrast. More thought and images on then and now to come. enjoy pjc

Board the next train out west with me Gas isn't cheap neither is film.

Amtrak 1998, memories from the Rails Past and Future

Sept 17 1998 Lake Shore Limited
The 90's were capped with a grand experience! Leaving Springfield Ma. in the late afternoon on an adventure of cross country train travel. I arrived in Albany where we picked up a New engine and combined trains. Two am 1/4-1/2 sec exposure. So for the next few blogs I will treat you to the 10th anniversary images and notes from my last trip. I will be heading out again, in search of a dream.
An hour or so in Albany little sleep prior despite Amtrak's big comfy seats I was too excited. There was a couple from Belgium across the aisle a graphic designer she with an easy laugh, conversation about US rail and European rail, art cameras. In Albany a Chef who was working on a cook book. Next stop Chicago where the station was immaculate I smiled and shot. More images to come. A return to the rails coming soon.

So now almost two weeks later I have put this together these images, film not instant gratification. Choices made by the photographer not the technology, pondered for a while five hours 40 images my images made without a plastic fantastic lover.
Statements made with light by a passionate observer.

Old Roads old autos an abstract vision of the past flavored with garlic.

While picking up an excellent Shrimp and Garlic Pizza at Coventry Pizza on South St. I found this classic old Dodge parked outside. So I fed my creative mind followed by my hungry body a great combination. Yummy. enjoy pjc

Everyone's a dreamer Everyone's a star

As close to Hollywood as I will get or want to be, not Hollywood Boulevard but Rt 5 just south of Brattleboro Vt in Massachusetts. Friendly people on a sunny afternoon very welcoming and a lovely barmaid. Made me wish I wasn't 2 hours drive from home. Travels past and present will be this week, months theme. I never got out of the 80's while chronicling my photo history. So on to the Nineties. With an occasional peek at the present and past. Choo Choo enjoy pjc

Independence Day and Free Speach

The writing is on the wall as "We the People" celebrated independence day. This year besides the faces I shot signs. Walker Evans during the last depression made images using signs to present a portrait of our nation. Now eighty or so years later where everything is a sign, your sweat pants, tee shirts, I chose not to photograph the gentleman in the tee shirt that read "I'd rather be water boarding" as he yelled at the anti war marchers "They'd cut your head off for that in Iran." We all still have in theory free speech. But are "We the People" speaking independently or just regurgitating what the media and political talking heads force feed us? enjoy pjc
