Front End Composition - Day trip tutorial
Spend
a day at a visually stimulating location with me to answer your
questions and fine tune your visual voice. This one day workshop is
designed from my philosophy that the more you know about the image
you are making before you press the shutter the more clear your
visual statement becomes. Whether you are working in film or digital
makes no difference a clear vision of your subject is the most
important element.
My philosophy is simple; it is “A Way of Seeing.” In a world where
we use our minds less and less to make decisions, I strive to use my
mind to make creative choices. When I make a negative I not only
know everything in the frame, I put everything there. When things
are happening quickly, you may not see everything, but the more you
train your eyes to see, the more they will see. For the purpose of
this tutorial, work my way. No auto anything! The eye sees like a
painter. If there is something you don’t like, your eye and mind
edit it out. Classic examples are vacation photos of beautiful
mountain vistas with an overflowing trash can in the corner of the
image.
The darkroom or the computer has always been a place to fix mistakes
or under-developed ideas. Through this workshop, we will step back
and ask why this image? Why this light?
Topics covered are:
- Subject Identification
- Using light to create strong emotional statements
- Subject Communication, even if you are not shooting people
you still speak with your subject so your subject speaks more
clearly to your audience.
- Negative Space and the influence it has on making your
subject more powerful.
Cost $25 per person plus exp. [gas if I drive and a cheap bite to
eat] maximum group size is three, weekends or week days.
