Time, reality, concept and Value?

04.04.2009 by Peter J. Crowley // 5 Comments

Time as a man made concept repeats itself every 24 hours, but since man can only count to twelve one could say it repeats itself in half the time. Me I repeat myself all the time. Tick tock tick tock ! It has been a long week, 168 hours or 10,080 minutes. Some minutes are longer than others, just ask the cows in N. Dakota that won’t know when to be milked if daylight savings time is allowed. What of the value of time? Who the hell do we humans think we are to control time. The sun comes up it is day time, the sun goes down it is night time. Very simple, but simple doesn’t pay the bills even the ND cows know that and if you don’t believe me ask your cell phone. This week [seven days one hundred and sixty eight hours] I was told that what I do isn’t work since I am not being paid for the time. So now we have work time and play time to consider. Is an hour of work time longer than sixty minutes? Is this hour more valuable than an hour of play time? Writing, seeing, pondering, creating momentary stories, commentary on these times is that not work? Or perhaps it is better to not see put your vision on auto or some other mode. Or is the time spend shoveling bull shit on the Senate Floor or lieing to the populous while the camera is running sound byte time is that of more value? Is there sixty minutes in a sound byte? Well it is time for more coffee and to go out in the day time to shoot some film, I have to make time to be creative. Time flashes by in increments of 1/250 of a second for me and if you take the time to look you may see how much time you waste chasing after the promises spit out to you in sound byte time. Enjoy your time it isn’t a dress rehearsal, but it is most likely fiction. Time to go, enjoy pjc

” You can’t please all the people all the time.” Abe Lincoln said that “but with the proper and continuous spin you can make the people believe they are pleased.”

Add some distraction

And some love if you can find the time!

This took me 120 minutes of time to create, worthwhile or wasted time? Time will tell.

Election day Aprils fools

04.01.2009 by Peter J. Crowley // 5 Comments

Winter lingers in the trees, spring shimmers in the pond.

April first and I was thinking. I know that is shunned upon but I still try. Thanksgiving a Holiday where families get together, perhaps the most family oriented holiday where we put our differences aside. But every four years [2 if you count the off presidential election years] the coming of this holiday is mired in an election. During the 3.5 years of campaigning mud slinging, lying, bribing and dirty tricks we are subjected to are followed by a meal with family where the winners are gloating and the losers are sour. Of course there is that off hanging chad year where the fraud is so prevalent that it can’t be photoshopped out of our consciousness so we give our rights over to the courts for a fair decision. Ha ha ha ha. I digress. So as I dosed off last night I thought “Maybe we should change election day to April First?” It seems to me that would be more reflective of the true nature of the Democratic Process that for the last 3.5 years we have had rammed down our collective throats. Happy April Fools Day and don’t forget to get your taxes paid for some where there is a CEO and a Senator without enough fuel to fly the private jet to Palm Springs. enjoy pjc

So Peter is shooting Digital. Will wonders never cease?

03.27.2009 by Peter J. Crowley // 3 Comments

Well thanks to a great friend I now have a digital Canon and am shooting some with color images. It is a different animal than my Nikon’s which are still my primary creative voice.
For now I use it only for color. I sometimes use it as a Polaroid to check lighting in studio, if it is a particularly new set up. But still working mostly with one light that is rare. The instant gratification is nice [but I always want a cigarette right after] because without my own darkroom I shoot less. I can also offer a lower rate for prints from sessions. No tech talk here though suffice it to say I can provide high quality 8.5 x 11 prints.

Inspiration is found all around if one looks today’s collage is from my kitchen counter. Coffee a cup from Mocha Joe’s in Brattleboro Vt a place I haven’t been in a year. The city is a very visual location. Want to go with me? A day Trip Tutorial?
See the link for incredibly reduced rates even the poor I mean middle class can afford. Some of the most recognized images ever made were done during the last depression.
Just cause I have a diggie does not mean I will change the tone of my visual or verbal voice. Well all for now. It is nice out and I want to go make negatives. enjoy pjc
