Was it all just a dream? A Midsummer Nights Dream

09.24.2014 by Peter J. Crowley // 4 Comments

C-41, E-6, Silver Gelatin? a mid career dream 1995, Centennial Theater Festival Simsbury Ct. A motion and emotion Photographic Artist. The Willi years perhaps my most creative period, but that is hard to be sure of there are more dreams to come more periods. Pixels and interaction with I-Phonians. Put the camera on auto and become a tripod in the creative process! Artificial intelligence isn’t the same as as emotional cognitive thought. There is no artificial emotion just modes spray and pray. I too now shoot digital one frame at a time, no cropping little post process just my mind and the transformation of light into emotion. No I won’t be posting everything to the social network as soon as I shoot. Instant gratification-instantly lost. The art is in the print not the monitor. Haven’t been posting for a while so I thought I would start with a little of my philosophical rant. Major changes as my heath isn’t good and I am packing up 40+ years of images each created individually by me each has a story, each has a memory few will be deleted as I move 3000 miles west.

Midsummer Nights Dream Centennial Theater

Post production on a 4×6 from 1995 add scratches and static like a fine vinyl album played back without remastering.

Spring Colors and Sky Columbia Ct

May 4th 2013 Columbia Green 006

Like an Impressionist view/painting the the trees pop with the color of new life yet as vivid as Autumn dappled color as if with a palette knife. Somewhere between here and there, I know this has been a theme of many posts looking back on my life as I travel RT.87 metaphorically. But now I sit and ponder where am I? On this journey from the 20th century to the 21st, resisting digital, yet addicted to the computer [this as all recent color work is digital] since the death of Kodachrome the dwindling number of labs that process E-6 color transparencies and my first love Black and White Film. I do process it myself but printing due to 2011-present Hospital/health odyssey I find it difficult painful to work in the dark for long.
Enough whining or back story. Reality or what passes for reality I wonder if I could print lot’s more, if I could but the apt. has over 1000 prints 15 of which are hanging at Higher Grounds Coffee House and Gallery. These images range from B+W to Kodachrome to digital all are pigment ink prints, a cross breeding of image making Between Here and There. I rarely use Photo Shop except to convert images to pixels to show you “Me.” Like a rift in the time continuum I sit between impressionism, film, digital. Digital provides instant gratification, yet also instantly forgotten while overpopulating the world of art photography. Instant art without the journey or emotion? Perhaps the journey is after the exposure? This image has had a little post process, perhaps I will work more with post process but when in my mind does the image become a painting rather than a photograph? This post of my thoughts is so 20th century way more than 140 characters. I could scan all the negs instead of printing them, another filing system then in a couple years I’d have to transfer to the latest forever file storage [remember cd’s were supposed to last forever? Now I read that forever is 3-5 years] I doubt that but will scan some as I travel back through 4 decades of images. More tomorrow the light and color is right. Comments here are appreciated thank you very much. enjoy pjc

Black Eyed Simplicity

Color simple digital image. I wanted to post a few from my ride to Great Falls Discovery Center but the three and one half month old computer no longer reads my CF card? Maybe I didn’t get the memo or the upgrade for now I assume it’s me. One of the three of me’s, reality Peter, Pixel Pete, the third being to constant battle to be one or the other? LOL What’s important? Speed, Convenience, goodnuff not for me. Reality Peter has been trying to switch back to B+W film. But some will say speed and convenience are more important than quality? Is it, is it goodnuff “Is that all there is?”

Same image decaffeinated.

Can you decide from your maybe balanced screen or you 2×3 inch phone screen? Not me all the devices in the world will not bring you the emotion of a print. Please make the trip to Turners Fall to see my work as prints/art! Show runs through Sept. with an Artist Reception Saturday Sept. 8th from 1-3pm. Turners Falls is a visual old Mill Town lot’s to do on a Autumn day. Real Prints
That’s all there is! enjoy pjc
