Keeping the Child

01.06.2009 by Peter J. Crowley // 6 Comments

In March of 2001 I moved to ArtSpace Norwich shortly after I met Berta and her two boys. I’ve watched them grow and shot them numerous times. Kids make a great Metaphor for the times. From skateboards to video games and soon the army I’ve observed these two keeping the child in themselves and me.

Keeping the Child August 31, 2003

The problem with keeping the child is selfishness. The I in child is always upper case, as we grow a longing for the I to become we! Why? All the usual answers apply, romance, procreation, religion, hormones. That is the way it has always been! As the world shrinks and technology creates convenience and lack of discipline [stick to it] the we becomes a feeble effort to possess, love takes on the roll of conquest. A lasting relationship with a significant other [if you do not understand it give it a new name] Simplicity is the most difficult concept to grasp. It requires you know yourself and there are so many other things to possess. Is it all just hormones? Do we just intellectualize because evolution ended with us. We are the deity so we must have values [or pretend to] above animals. We possess and possess and conquer and possess. Greed it is I.
