Olympia Faces, Thoughts a Bit of a Rant S.O.S.

09.03.2015 by Peter J. Crowley // 5 Comments

Another cool wet morning,

I miss the morning light, golden sharp angles a drive/walk to coffee seeking the highlight in conversation, life. I thought Oly would not offer this light often. The drought and warmth has provided the light I love. I see it through my window, beyond my reach. Meds pain fractured routine the light escapes me.

Hundreds of new images in Galleries of re-designed site on July 1st. One comment hundreds more to show but why bother? Sharing, giving away the new world of “Photographers” I give prints away on occasion but everything from every shoot. Like on FB support a multi billion $Corp. and then you don’t have to overwork your click finger. Worried about having to leave an email address ya I’m gonna sell your address LOL like social nitwit sites aren’t. simple solution have a junk email address so you won’t receive unwanted ads. I don’t send them but you could then use addy on other sites.  Simple and you can see more information on other sites. I have ranted about this before and have also said my Art is about communication but without response why bother talking.

Photographic Art  An artist who’s medium is Photography that’s me.

Prime Lens are Better for your Cardiovascular Health

Well maybe but not a lot but I think it adds to my creativity or focus level. One of Diane Arbus’s early mentors said “you must care passionately about your subject or why bother?” When I work with a subject on location I want to feel the space by walking around closer, farther I feel more in the space. Simply I work slower allowing my eyes to see different distances rather than stand in the same place and zooming. The sense of space more importantly the negative space what is going on in the frame that isn’t my subject. A subject is not always a person, could be a tree, a landscape anything just be totally involved passionate.

negative28-edited S30 Film Tenino 3-26-15

Tenino Wa. B+W film scan from negative 3-26-15 below is a digital of the same decaffeinated to B+W maybe it is me or my poor post production skill but film is B+W for real. More creative wanderings… Image here is made with Nikkor 105mm F-2.5 a prime lens. Digital is a 18-55mm Kit Zoom. Lens is really 28.8-88mm something Nikon neglects to mention in their data. It’s an 18 on a full sensor but not on the D-3100. The prime 105 is Brass and Glass not at all fashionable to a convenient driven photographer. It’s heavy but it’s sharp.  With the diggie I exposed more frames with the zoom, a little wider more close up. With film step back re frame bang 3 images and knowing I had what I wanted.

So with film you end up taking a few more steps not a big cardio gain every little bit helps. You also get a bit more time to explore the image you will make.

Along This Road I Travel Still.

05.23.2012 by Peter J. Crowley // Leave a Comment

Early spring traveling on Rt. 87 Lebanon this day by car to the darkroom at Photosynthesis  but my mind wanders to my youth as I would ride this road on my bike with friends from Coventry we would set out to explore sometimes riding 20 – 30 miles in a day. A new pond to skip rocks across, streams and big hills to race down fearless immortal kids. Fifty years later to the Lab, ten or so years ago to The Centennial Theater for summer theater dress rehearsal in Simsbury to photograph.
Yesterday hoping for an image or two between the rain drops or on the way back to chase the Golden Hour of late light. But there was no between the raindrops or Golden Hour. There was a visit with Carl and Maarit that made the sun shine within and the conversation with Tiana sharing her youth and dreams with us three sharing stories of youth and dreams. I told her I never thought I would be photographing barns but now as I think of being a kid in Coventry playing in haylofts the circle seems obvious.                                                    enjoy pjc
