May 16th Third Thursday Willimantic

05.18.2013 by Peter J. Crowley // Leave a Comment

The first Third Thursday Street Fest had all the usual things, Great food, Art, Music, Smiles and sadness?

3rd Thurs_edited-1

Thousands of folks attended and I was carrying a 480mm lens for this shot. Yes I do know what I want before I head out. The lens is heavy so rarely do I carry it for strolls. Image made breaking the rules at North St. looking into the sun, no hood. I ended up with an overexposed image exactly what I had planned. In PS I adjusted contrast darkened the image and over sharpened to create this graphic image of the crowd.

Colors of 3rd Thus_edited-1

Here is an image of the colors of festivities more of my usual closer look stuff.

Just before the first alarm-3rd Thurs 5-16-13-028

Mike Blommer plays with Fred’s Gospel Blues band. This image made moments before the first alarm that added sadness to the mix an unwanted visitor for this community.

At 7:15 I went to the Co-OP as I had planned to get some chips. There was a small crowd as it seemed that folks who could help were there and most of the rest stayed out of the way of the fire fighters who did a great job. Thank you very much to the devoted Fire Departments and the community.

May seventh along the Lebanon Green. Image made with the original Rebel and a 300mm lens [at 1.6 that’s 480mm] I have always wanted to paint so here is my effort to create an impressionistic Digital Painting.

Sprague Historical Society Muesum-4-6-13-032

At Diana Perkins book signing I drifted back to one of my favorite influences Walker Evans. Looking up at all the old signs no longer hung on the buildings but now historical signposts of art. Diana looks back at this Mill Town to create “Jenny’s Way” her second novel in the Shetucket River Mill Town series; the first was Singing Her Alive. I look forward to reading Jenny’s Way but after I left the book signing I visited friends one who started the book when I got there and reports to me that she loves the way Diana weaves the history throughout the book. enjoy pjc

Photographic Art Art Signs still can be found.
