Once a Man Twice a Child an Afternoon with Inara

06.29.2017 by Peter J. Crowley // 6 Comments

After school with grandpa. We had planned to see how the Sound sounds. But a class trip to the fountain had her worn out,  she said let’s go to your house and draw. Perfect as my energy level and mobility was minimal.

She rests a bit waiting for the bus to grandpas.

Arriving at my apt. she visits old friends Thomas the Train A fierce and fun game of bouncy ball. A soccer super ball a favorite game with different rules every time we start. The only real rule is laughing. She works on a Mythical bird with a bowl of  Cape Cod Chips. She drops a crayon in the chips.

Don’t eat the crayon

We got your rocks, leafs, branches, flowers and toys. I ask her what does this look like? A sheepish grin as she say My Room. Other than her room she is very organized wanting everything in place. We laugh wildly.

Once a man twice a child, my friend Arnold told me this as his age and health slowed has activity. Inara comes out from the bathroom frustrated her shirt was inside out I turned it back and started to put it on her. I can do it grandpa. Like the little old man she asks for help but insists on doing what she can. The little old man does the same the difference being she will grow and be able to do these things. The little old man needs more help with many things to never do again.

Sampling of growing up

04.19.2017 by Peter J. Crowley // 3 Comments

Last week a package arrived with new shoes. She is very conscious of how things feel so there is only one type of shoes she wears. Sitting with mom they open the new shoes with dinosaurs on them. But they have Palm tress? Comparing the shoes and the order  she says they have the same skee number. Mom that’s not possible and looks sure enough same number. Inara quips and besides I wear shoes with animals on them not habitat.

A Rule of 3-5 YOs

A lamp pole, a parking post if it is there you spin on it always.

dsc_2952-web-this-pole-10-22-16Maybe this one……………..

dsc_2953-web-10-22-16-poles-to-turn-roundThis one after spinning a couple times I took this image and tried to explain dizziness.

Friday around 3 Kirsten and Inara arrive. The Fun level rises to a peak. Grandpa have any of that blue tape? I do so we go to the mirror to try tape positions. Settling on the side of her face we are off to Mekong for sticky rice. Arriving during a downpour the put on your jacket goes on for a few minutes. Jacket on my new hat and under my coat a “Grandbrella.” Inside we laugh as Mom had grabbed her backpack. A young women leaving obviously needs the story of silliness. Inara provides details and highlights of her day picking up colored leafs. The women says she didn’t get out before the rain. Not a problem I have some for you back pack opened a selection made lots more giggling and it is time to sit and eat. Saturday morning she arrives. I didn’t bring any toys.  We don’t need toys we make everything a toy. A jewel she brought becomes the spinney chair wood spoon game. A stroll brings us to Olympia High school where there are poles. Ice cream I have some at home. Not the right kind. Waiting for the bus after 10 minutes I ask is it really the kind of ice cream or do you just want to go to the restaurant and people watch.  A sly smile “ya” a few more minutes and the Mango FroYO at my house sounds good.   The Mekong incident was great but there are times where I let her be without images. There will be more blue tape and hat scenes I am sure.
