Life’s Big Truths, Words Words

04.18.2016 by Peter J. Crowley // 3 Comments

A Life in Photographic Art my second book.

DSC_0014 Ss15 B-3 Macaroni under the stove 3-15-16Grandpa there’s Macaroni under the stove.

Yes Inara there is, in fact most homes in the U.S have Macaroni under the stove. That look???? a moment to ponder and a nod of agreement.  We were having lunch at Oldschool Pizzeria  the other day. Garlic Knots or Knot Bread as they are called. An episode of Abbot and Costello happened. What are you eating Tancern? “Knot Bread” ok if you are not eating bread what are you eating? Grandpa it’s Knot Bread. Alright not bread but what are you eating? This little banter of “Who’s on First” style went on for five minutes Eyes rolling laughing we finished the Knot Bread. The word games punctuate our strolls. Last summer after clamming her and Daddy found a little crab in the bucket. Mom told her they would put it back near/in the sound in the morning. Why wait she thought so she brought the crab to the stereo and put it by a speaker.

Thursday sunny downtown Mom shopping we head for Ice Cream walking down from Blue we visit a few murals hand in hand we call it fingers for crossing streets today she just likes holding my hand.

DSC_0742 S30 After Ice Cream Climb 4-16-16 A bit of climbing after Ice Cream at Grandpa’s Soda Fountain and Ice Cream Parlor Climbing like running is essential. We head back to the car stopping at Blue a women comes in and says hi that she had seen us dancing up the street. Out to the street mom tells me when she picked you up at school she could hear the whole class howling? Did you get that started? AAahhooo she reply’s a man coming down the street says hey I know you sounding good. He knows her from Batdorf’s.

DSC_0749 S35 Sat+10 R-2 Batdorfs lady Bugs 4-16-16Saturday morning out to Batdorf’s early for a scone and a furious game of Lady Bugs. There is a scone in the case two in fact but no one is a reflection. The laughter continues “That’s Silly” Back at the table we laugh about the two scones. I say you know we actually got both scones. That Look? When we took the real one the reflection disappeared. A window table, Lady Bug board on window seat a burst of crumbs laughter, Aphids, Praying Mantis’s a busy Sat. morning at the coffee shop but. It’s me and you grandpa Ally’s and Art animals and reflections on to the Farmers Market to eat lunch with mom we howl to find her. Some dancing and carrots eat 3 more and a treat. Cotton Candy? Dancing and a cotton candy search. Ice cream is a good substitute. To the South Sound Estuary. This adventure to be continued.

DSC_0045 S45 B-2 Shd Lgt20 HiLtDrk-20 10-16-15 Percival Landing often a destination to read, write but today the sun that shone when I left for the bus was replaced by a cool breeze and a hazy shade of winter. The table and chairs where I would sit and write have been moved indoor for the season. Winter is closing in, but the light was right it always is. The water the boats abstract reflections.

DSC_0039 S50 B-2 Cnst+60 Brt Shad Lgt Hi30 10-16-15I wonder is everything just a reflection? Light and shade create  reality the reflection different each time you look painted with a wider brush.  Summer dances on the ripples of Autumns chilly breath.

DSC_0040 RAW S40 B+2 G-2 R+2 Cnst+60 10-16-15Trying to catch a reflection of a gull cavorting above, not easy. Twenty minutes no gull. I walk on viewing the public art and shooting some skateboarders. A Molasses cookie at Traditions and back to the bus ninety minutes after getting off the bus I am heading home a good productive walk.  The light was right it always is………………………..

Saturday Adventure at Grandpa’s

05.05.2015 by Peter J. Crowley // 10 Comments

She arrives excited about the day The adventure starts with a snack and a video.

_DSC0513 S20 B-2R+1 Drk-1 Relaxing at Grandpas 4-18-15A Big Day planned, Dragon Boats and dancers, lunch chocolate treats, The Procession of the Species. More little events happening along the way.

_DSC0784 S60 To the City Bus 4-25-15As exciting as the day I planned Inara had her own ideas. In the car on the way over while her mom was talking to me I hear her shout “CityBus” as they passed the bus then “Grandpa’s taking me on the CityBus.” Off she runs up the Street to the  CityBus stop.

_DSC0787 Ss20 Drk20 Cntr-20 Dandelion Planting 4-25-15-There is always time to stop and seed the neighborhood.

_DSC0797 Intent on The City 4-25-15On the CityBus at last she sits totally enveloped in the experience. Her level of focus is incredible. She misses nothing, she wants to know everything what is the square thing on the roof? Why everything it is wonderful as I explain things to her she soaks up the information like a sponge.

_DSC0805 Ss20 Drk20 Cntr+20 Chalk to Draw 4-25-15But it isn’t all learning sometimes you have to be a frog with chalk to draw on the walk.

_DSC0819 S30 Red+3 Blue-2 Procession 4-25-15The procession follows chocolate and a Mocha and playing with a stick and of course running. She runs big loops always staying near always listening.  It is a joy.

_DSC0875 S30 4-30-15 CitiBusThe  PA System was too loud at the Dragon Boats so we went to lunch. After lunch we went out walking slowly along the ports restaurants, galleries, shops. I ask her if she wants to go back to the boats, up to downtown and look at art get a treat and play? “Grandpa can we ride on the CityBus some more?” We spent the next hour riding around Olympia looking out the window and talking about all we saw.  Kirsten met us at the Procession and we went for Thai food and a quick stop at the market home by 8:30 eleven and a half hours after we ran up the street to the CityBus Adventure and neither of us had a nap.
