“Ya Mom that’s the deal”

02.02.2016 by Peter J. Crowley // 1 Comment

A Life in Photographic Art my second book

Negotiation on socks, snacks, lunch, the bath….. pretty much everything is a debate. Actually Grandpa it’s………. on the phone with Kirsten, More cheerios, no have some other food, I’ll have some more cheerios  then real food. No some protein. “Ya mom that’s the deal!” I sit laughing the debate continues.

DSC_0028S15 ShadHi Cnst-15 At The Restraunt 12-14-15  Having lunch at The Spa I was joined by Inara and her best friend who had eaten and had little interest in being here on a sunny day. Come on off to another adventure.

DSC_0004 Ss15 B-5 9-4-15Sept 4th Loving climbing in playground at Percival Landing. Sat. Jan. 30 we were out going to the Farmers Market. But Grandpa lets walk over to see the crane. The crane at the port has an elevator for the operator to get to control booth it is very tall. Nine sets of two tires on each side. We walk down the dock, shells flowers it is spring so the crocuses are blooming. Lets go to the playground. She swings, climbs meets a little boy and shows him how to slide down a curved poll. To the farmers market ?? Can I run and chase the gull off she goes into the very wet muddy field. Shoes sucked off her feet muddy socks a near melt down. All is well we head to get a treat and warm feet. A Mocha and a scone is my plan. Grandpa lets go there I have been there and like it. Budd Bay Cafe a very nice restaurant. She asks do they have pizza? No how about a salad? Sitting side by side in the window we talk about fish, wolves, shells. A flat bread salmon sandwich for me. Inara looks like pizza she has a bite likes it wow cooked food with fish melted cheese almost sauce. She likes it wow. She isn’t like Mikey from the 70s TV ad very particular about her food.

DSC_0008 S15 ShdHi A new Friend 72 9-4-15Sept 4th with a friend she just met at Harbor Days. Her friends Parents have a booth selling clothes we visit the booth and her folks say sure she can explore with us very fun. Making faces, looking for fishes climbing running a full day.

DSC_0012 The Frog from Tom crop 12-25-15Christmas morning Grandpa your friend Tom sent me a big frog. She is delighted.

DSC_0038 Sat+Y15 Ss15 1-4-16I’m Four isn’t that cool, or is it silly? Pizza, and a Raw Cauliflower, Strawberry, Red Pepper and Broccoli cake grandpa is quite a cook. So many things happen hard to keep up.   enjoy pjc

That’s Silly, That’s Cool

12.24.2015 by Peter J. Crowley // 11 Comments

She sees something I should see she says “That’s Silly.” I in-turn see something she should see I say  “That’s Cool.” So I ask her when she says that sometimes it is silly, but sometimes it is cool what you want me to see?  She looks and ponders, the car goes alongDSC_0148S15 B-2 Lgt ShirtChair 50 Cnst-50 Lgt30 LgtChair 20 Cnst_20 10-3-15we pass something she likes wants me to see, “That’s Cool” I agree it was cool colorful, creative, unusual which is what I mean by cool. Later we pass something else from the back she hoots “That’s silly!” It was and grandpa smiles.

Next month 4Y.O. time races by faster than a speeding 3 YO and that’s fast. Here are a few moments from recently for me but long ago for her. There is little time to linger as there is something new, something always comes next.

DSC_0026 72 Fist Hair Cut at Salon 11-24-15The first real haircut with Jason at Jamie Lee and Company.   She sat very still and the bangs are not in here eyes. We played with the kitties, looked at the art and laughed while mom had her hair cut.

DSC_0014 S15 Shad Lgt10 Drk Hi 40 cnst -65 Shadows 9-9-15In September we were meeting mom downtown she noticed the shadows and I talked about how at the end of the day shadows grew fast. Standing for a few minutes we watched them increase in length. Take a picture grandpa. It was cool.

DSC_0074 Ss15 G-30 R-20 Thats silly 11-24-15Boo Bash at The Hands On Children’s Museum where she was a Penguin. We sat for a picture in a giant chair now that’s silly.

There were snakes and lizards to pet and a real Herpetologist to meet.

DSC_0037 Ss15 Boo bash 11-24-15 Turtles, a Hissing Madagascan Cockroach, a glow in the dark tee shirt to make. Something always comes next, Grandpa grandpa she squeals above the din of 300 + kids racing from event to event so much to see and do. To touch she wants to touch everything it is a way of understanding the world around tactile communication. The movies she watches, the books she reads Mostly Nat Geo or Nova. Science videos, documentaries it is plain that people are a boring animal.  Ahwooo she howls I am Trancern the king of the wolves.

Fall to winter ramblings

12.10.2015 by Peter J. Crowley // 7 Comments

DSC_0085 Ss15 Sat+20 Nisqually 9-26-15

Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge  Sept. 26th late afternoon light. Could be Vermont in the 70’s a farm a dirt road to visual adventures. But it’s the other side of the country the other side of life.

Dec 1st a stroll with film camera out before the deluge. Darkness 1pm ISO 400 1/125 F5.6 I shake the meter, test the batteries even cloudy this is not mid day light. A visit to the past waiting for the bus a 70’s era Olds cruises by Eight Cylinders straight pipes sounds of my youth. A one time subject possible muse too busy to shoot I understand, she needs not tell me. Creativity a passing fancy that briefly nourished my soul an appetizer to the main course that never arrives.

Traditions reading the paper my shoulder aches another part that needs repair. Like an old auto I move forward. Darkness, Darkness visiting this journal, film the window seat Capital Lake Park cold empty devoid of kites, volleyball nets, gleeful children, legs and fannies decorated in geometric  brightly colored  patterns hibernating….. Striped legs flash through the cafe thick wool, winter coat, scarf a momentary memory of summer. Abstraction as yet unfulfilled images perhaps they will bloom again in spring? Now bare trees gray light a winter sound track.          peace pjc
