When you have finished manipulation? Do you ever finish manipulation when is the piece finished? When is it Art?

bw-8-LithoTransferSevenMonths

Manipulation isn’t new this image is a study of a pregnant women. Shot on 35mm film at ISO 1600 to gain more grain and texture. It was then printed onto a sheet of 4×5 film giving me a positive image, then contact printed on to a 4×5 sheet of litho film [high contrast film used in the printing industry]this film sees just Black and White and adds more texture and grain. Many steps that I decided on while shooting the original negative in very contrasty studio light. When did it become Photographic Art?

What are your thoughts? When Does an image become Art? peace pjc

Studio Muse Portrait

A moments pause by my Muse an image is made. An invitation to ponder, what is being said by this subject, this Photographic Artist. “Every image you make is a self portrait” be it a beautiful young muse wide eyes or a textured wood colored barn. Images all speak to you in a silent wonderful visual language. Are the words the same to all. No, does she speak the same words every time you look no, nor does the barn. “A photograph is a secret about a secret the more it tells you the less you know.” Diane Arbus. It is your day about which she speaks an ambiguous, solitary, alluring. You correspond the emotion to the image. Image made in 2004 silver gelatin print. Eight years later she still speaks to me different words with each view, they all still speak with me, Barns, Rivers, Abstracts…                           enjoy pjc

Wood Nymphs from the Past Still Dance in my Mind

Wood Nymphs Caprilands-108-00-6a

The year was 2000 yet it seems so long ago twelve years is a long time or the blink of the shutter in a creative mind.  The season was spring, the circle begins with a flourish at Caprilands Herb Farm in Coventry Ct. Image made on B+W film despite all the color I like this best a moody mystical image of what is but never was.
