07.24.2020 by Peter J. Crowley // Leave a Comment

A smorgasbord of my seeing now and then.

My first day out since March 16th a ride in N. Olympia to Steamboat Island. May 28th 2020 a barn abandoned is reclaimed by green.

July 9th 2020 West Bay Park Puget Sound a gull a Ferry and a conversation.

Steamboat Island May 28th 2020 just after the three day weekend that makes Memorial Day more convenient.

Northern Vermont Autumn.

Artspace Norwich Ct. my studio 2009. Space I do miss studio space. Just after moving to Norwich Jeff an old friend visited. This room was empty as I had not unpacked. No ladders, sculpture stands, checkerboard floor just space. Jeff said I have an old wood diner booth it would fit here nicely. I looked around and said no I don’t think there is room for it here.

Norwich Ct. November 2013 shopping downtown.

April 6th 2001 one month after moving to Norwich Ct.  I fill the space and show this image to Jeff.

Newport  RI Summer 1981

Manchester Ct. 2010 triangles and texture on a visit to Carl’s

August 26 2006 Artspace Norwich Ct  four images of her at the beginning of a roll of a model painted. I first thought it was the painter but on further review it isn’t. Seventy and my memory fails me, a resident or friend of one at the elevator or in the hall then 15 minutes in the studio. I’ll ask Roberta I think she will know.

Lacey Wa. December 31 2014 a librarian at Timberland Library.

Wood Nymphs Frolic at Caprilands 2000 Coventry Ct.

02.17.2020 by Peter J. Crowley // 7 Comments

A magical morning at Caprilands in Coventry Ct.

Misty early light they revel, dancing in their world, life without times reality.

A sundial to warn that the reality will soon arrive and they will dance off returning to their hidden realm.

But sun is warm as are the moments,

Still time for a bit more morning play. Boldly they dance the silence broken by joyful laughter.

One last repose, a smile a giggle a wisp of wind and they are gone.

Figures, Sculpture with Light Motion Classical Forms. Abstract Figures prior to Photo Shop

02.14.2020 by Peter J. Crowley // 5 Comments

The female form a subject of mine and the rest of the art world forever. Arnold said I was a lazy sculptor followed by his laugh. The movement of the body through the image frame mesmerizing in it’s beauty. Light dances around the curves. Strong stunning form. I’ve been asked why no men? I agree with  Elaine [from Seinfeld] “women’s bodies are a work of art men’s bodies are utilitarian for getting around like a jeep.”

But the eyes of a model, sometimes you know right away that the connection is right, again it is the eyes. Her eyes are my eyes, my eyes are hers, speaking volumes to those who listen. They speak and dance in a language that only we can hear it is magic! We work, talk, laugh and the time disappears. She is a mirror of my reason for creating, an alphabet for me to comment with, we dance this creative minuet both thinking we are in control both knowing that neither of us is, there is only the moment it is brief, lasting forever.

Shapes created by light, eyes and wonder is there. Figure studies of mine are favored by collectors. More then half of these connoisseurs of mine are females.

A simple torso study much of my work is highlighted by it’s simplicity. A difficult concept to grasp. There is no need to understand why an image moves you. What is important is that it does.

Way pre Photo Shop the 80’s I began exploration of the figure abstracted.  Creating an alternate environment often gravity free.  The image below could by hung with three different bottoms.

Four if you can handle the breasts at the bottom. It simply does noting for me that way. So much of my work will never be seen this portfolio has over 200 negatives. Many not printed or scanned. The Connecticut Archives will be home to my journalistic, documentary work. But my art has yet to find a home.
