Conniving Her Way to a Scone.

03.21.2016 by Peter J. Crowley // Leave a Comment

A Life in Photographic Art my second book

Yesterday my phone rings round four Kirsten says they are going to the market but Tancern insists I come with them. So a while later we are off to the library, followed by Freddy’s. The wolf is unusually quiet till the library not the usual library so there is much to explore. Bats, Bugs, NF the usual choices. A step stool to stand and look at the diorama of a castle with animals, Disney characters,  Muppets. Arriving at the market she slows down as we go through the second doors she turns with that look speaking softly serious a great idea “Mom why don’t you go and shop and grandpa and I will go and have a scone.” So that’s the deal two hours ago she thought a scone sounded good. She is sharp thinking ahead.

DSC_0063 S15 Sharing a Scone 2-15-16Another scone thoroughly enjoyed by her and the chair at Batdorfs. We arrive there are four kinds of scones. A selection made she heads to find today’s comfy chair.  She uses her best indoor voice to Howl AHHwooo I howl back. Sitting she eats her scone it explodes all over most finds her mouth. There is a fireplace she curls up on the rug and digs into her backpack. An orange my turn “Actually it is a tangerine.” She agrees I start to peel but only a start I can do this. A napkin laid out to keep the peels on, the peels and fruit become a butterfly arranged on the floor “are the feet tasting the napkin?” The peels become a humming bird “Grandpa their wings move very fast yet the bird doesn’t move Yep” Cleaning up we take the peels to the bus bin “I can reach ….” not quite the peels cascade to the floor and our laughter fills the room. We clean up.

Arriving she shows me all the varieties, grandpa you take these little cups to taste. She seems to be heading behind the counter the clerk says Inara knows how it is done. The theme from Cheers in my head. It continues playing as she realizes someone is sitting at her table.

Like the speed in the mall life races along. An interview at Kindergarten is she ready confident? Asked her name she says Inara followed by But my Wolf Name is Tancern. She is there starting in fall. A book of puzzles at the market 10 minutes before leaving at check out we are done the first five. Each day a buffet of new adventures.

Digital IR 2, Thoughts on My Creative Process

02.24.2016 by Peter J. Crowley // Leave a Comment

A stroll with film camera shooting Rollie RPX 400 an orthochromatic B+W film. Using this film with a Red 25 deep Red filter produces a negative similar to IR. Well this digital age has me a bit less patient so standing at the bus stop I thought. In theory digital doesn’t react to color filters yet last spring I exposed some orange Poppies with a red filter with a good result.

DSC_0138 RPFilter S30 Cnvt IR B-3_edited-1Setting the camera on B+W I went into the menu and applied a Red/Purple filter the darkest available. My idea being if the filter was applied internally I might have a better starting point to create this effect. So convert even when shot on BW, to B+W IR followed by contrast and sharpening. The second image is re opened in PS Convert again save in Newspaper mode contrast and sharp.

IR close but not quite, perhaps over sharp yet it feels like I saw it staring almost into sun just out of frame in left. Opinions on effect? Thoughts appreciated.

The trick is not found by letting the camera tell you what it can’t do, it is found by making the camera do what you want.

A Life in Photographic Art my second book

Negotiation on socks, snacks, lunch, the bath….. pretty much everything is a debate. Actually Grandpa it’s………. on the phone with Kirsten, More cheerios, no have some other food, I’ll have some more cheerios  then real food. No some protein. “Ya mom that’s the deal!” I sit laughing the debate continues.

DSC_0028S15 ShadHi Cnst-15 At The Restraunt 12-14-15  Having lunch at The Spa I was joined by Inara and her best friend who had eaten and had little interest in being here on a sunny day. Come on off to another adventure.

DSC_0004 Ss15 B-5 9-4-15Sept 4th Loving climbing in playground at Percival Landing. Sat. Jan. 30 we were out going to the Farmers Market. But Grandpa lets walk over to see the crane. The crane at the port has an elevator for the operator to get to control booth it is very tall. Nine sets of two tires on each side. We walk down the dock, shells flowers it is spring so the crocuses are blooming. Lets go to the playground. She swings, climbs meets a little boy and shows him how to slide down a curved poll. To the farmers market ?? Can I run and chase the gull off she goes into the very wet muddy field. Shoes sucked off her feet muddy socks a near melt down. All is well we head to get a treat and warm feet. A Mocha and a scone is my plan. Grandpa lets go there I have been there and like it. Budd Bay Cafe a very nice restaurant. She asks do they have pizza? No how about a salad? Sitting side by side in the window we talk about fish, wolves, shells. A flat bread salmon sandwich for me. Inara looks like pizza she has a bite likes it wow cooked food with fish melted cheese almost sauce. She likes it wow. She isn’t like Mikey from the 70s TV ad very particular about her food.

DSC_0008 S15 ShdHi A new Friend 72 9-4-15Sept 4th with a friend she just met at Harbor Days. Her friends Parents have a booth selling clothes we visit the booth and her folks say sure she can explore with us very fun. Making faces, looking for fishes climbing running a full day.

DSC_0012 The Frog from Tom crop 12-25-15Christmas morning Grandpa your friend Tom sent me a big frog. She is delighted.

DSC_0038 Sat+Y15 Ss15 1-4-16I’m Four isn’t that cool, or is it silly? Pizza, and a Raw Cauliflower, Strawberry, Red Pepper and Broccoli cake grandpa is quite a cook. So many things happen hard to keep up.   enjoy pjc
